Astrotalk Enters Unicorn Club at $1 Billion Valuation After ESOP Buyback

Noida-headquartered online astrology platform Astrotalk has entered India’s unicorn club at a valuation of $1 billion following an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) buyback that allowed more than 100 employees to sell their shares.

The company confirmed the transaction and valuation, although it has not disclosed the size of the buyback or the number of shares repurchased.

Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, Astrotalk has grown into one of India’s largest online astrology platforms, connecting users with more than 20,000 active astrologers through chat and voice consultations. The company serves customers across India as well as international markets including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The unicorn milestone comes after a sharp increase in the company’s financial performance. Astrotalk’s operating revenue rose 81% year-on-year to ₹1,176 crore in FY25 from ₹651 crore in FY24. Its total income reached ₹1,214 crore, up about 85% during the year, while user engagement increased 27%.

Astrotalk’s adjusted profit before tax (PBT) rose 125% to ₹285 crore in FY25 from ₹127 crore a year earlier. The company had reported one-time employee-related expenses of around ₹120 crore and a non-cash mark-to-market adjustment of approximately ₹80 crore related to CCPS instruments, making the adjusted PBT figure a more relevant measure of its underlying operating performance.

The company has also been diversifying beyond its core astrology consultation business through Astrotalk Store, its spiritual commerce platform launched in November 2024. The e-commerce arm generated more than ₹140 crore in revenue in 2025 and has scaled to an annualised revenue run rate of more than ₹200 crore. It processed over 1.6 million orders during the year and currently offers more than 300 products across categories such as rudrakshas, gemstones, bracelets, idols and other spiritual and ritual products.

Astrotalk initially invested ₹30 lakh to test the e-commerce model and subsequently deployed around ₹40 crore to expand inventory, strengthen supply chains, invest in technology and marketing, and add new categories. The company is targeting ₹400–500 crore in annualised revenue for the Store by FY27 and plans to add more than 500 products while expanding its reach, including into Tier II and Tier III cities.

The $1 billion valuation represents a significant jump from Astrotalk’s last publicly reported funding valuation. In June 2024, the company raised approximately ₹117 crore through a mix of primary and secondary transactions at a pre-money valuation of around ₹2,400 crore. The round was led by Elev8 Venture Partners, with participation from existing investor Left Lane Capital.

Astrotalk’s latest milestone also comes after a reported funding round at a unicorn valuation involving Hornbill Capital failed to materialise during due diligence. The company has since continued to grow through its core consultation business and its newer spiritual commerce vertical.

With the ESOP buyback providing liquidity to employees while establishing a $1 billion valuation, Astrotalk has now joined India’s growing group of consumer internet companies valued at unicorn levels without a fresh primary funding round.
