Legal AI Startup NYAI Raises $1.5 Million in Seed Funding

Pune-based legal infrastructure startup NYAI has raised $1.5 million (approximately ₹13 crore) in a seed funding round backed by a consortium of Indian family offices, along with participation from strategic angel investors.

The fresh capital will be used to accelerate product innovation, enhance NYAI’s AI-powered compliance platform, expand adoption among listed companies, law firms and enterprise customers, and strengthen the platform’s deployment, security and assurance capabilities.

Founded in March 2025 by Chinmay Bhosale and Vikrant Labde, NYAI develops legal AI infrastructure designed specifically for India’s legal and regulatory ecosystem. The platform helps organisations automate legal research, compliance monitoring and governance workflows while providing citation-backed, auditable outputs suitable for enterprise use.

Its product suite includes AI-powered legal research, contract analysis, automated document drafting, case summarisation, regulatory monitoring and real-time compliance intelligence. The platform is trained on millions of Indian legal documents, including court judgments, tribunal orders, Acts, regulations, circulars and regulatory updates, enabling users to access jurisdiction-specific legal insights.

Unlike conventional generative AI tools, NYAI focuses on verifiable citations, explainability, audit trails and source integrity, allowing enterprises and legal professionals to rely on AI-generated outputs for high-stakes legal, governance and compliance decisions.

The platform also supports on-premises deployment and integrates with organisations’ existing large language model (LLM) infrastructure, enabling enterprises to retain sensitive legal and corporate data within their own environments while meeting internal security and regulatory requirements.

According to the company, Indian businesses incur an estimated ₹95,000 crore annually in legal and regulatory penalties, while listed companies face more than ₹1.65 lakh crore in value erosion linked to compliance failures and regulatory risks, highlighting the growing need for AI-driven legal intelligence and governance solutions. These figures are based on the company’s internal estimates.

The funding comes as enterprises increasingly adopt generative AI to automate legal operations, contract management and regulatory compliance.
