Adani Group Proposes ₹1 Lakh Crore AI Data Centre Campus in Odisha

The Adani Group has proposed an investment of ₹1 lakh crore (₹1 trillion) to establish a large-scale AI-focused data centre campus in Odisha, with Cuttack emerging as a potential location for the project.

The proposal is currently being evaluated by the Odisha government. If approved, it would rank among the largest proposed investments in India’s AI and digital infrastructure sector, significantly expanding the country’s data centre and artificial intelligence computing capacity.

The proposed campus is expected to support artificial intelligence workloads, cloud computing, high-performance computing (HPC), enterprise digital services, and next-generation data processing, catering to the growing demand for AI-ready infrastructure from businesses, startups, research institutions, and government agencies.

The proposal comes as Odisha intensifies efforts to position itself as a major destination for AI and digital infrastructure. The state recently signed strategic MoUs with HCLTech and Sarvam AI to develop AI capabilities, including an AI & Digital Engineering Global Delivery Centre, a proposed Sovereign AI Park, and broader AI infrastructure initiatives aimed at supporting innovation, research, and enterprise adoption.

The proposed investment also aligns with the Adani Group’s broader strategy to build renewable energy-powered digital infrastructure as demand for AI computing continues to rise globally. The conglomerate has previously announced plans to invest heavily in AI-ready data centres and digital infrastructure over the coming decade through its data centre business.

Large AI data centres require significant access to reliable power, high-speed fibre connectivity, land, cooling infrastructure, and water resources, areas where Odisha has been actively strengthening its industrial ecosystem to attract hyperscale technology investments.

If the proposal receives approval, the project could significantly strengthen Odisha’s position as an emerging hub for hyperscale data centres, cloud infrastructure, and AI computing while supporting India’s ambition to build sovereign digital infrastructure and become a global centre for artificial intelligence innovation.
