Alongside the leadership change, PhonePe has expanded Rahul Chari's responsibilities by appointing him as Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO).

Digital payments and fintech major PhonePe has appointed Srijon Biswas as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), marking a significant leadership transition as the company continues to expand its technology capabilities across financial services.
Biswas, who has been with PhonePe since 2022, has led several core engineering teams and played a key role in strengthening the company’s technology infrastructure as the platform scaled to serve hundreds of millions of users. In his new role, he will oversee PhonePe’s engineering organisation and continue reporting to cofounder Rahul Chari.
Commenting on his appointment, Biswas said:
“I’m honored to take on the role of CTO at such an exciting time in PhonePe’s journey. I’m excited to work with our immensely talented teams to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation, reliability, and scale as we build products that serve hundreds of millions of Indians.”
Alongside the leadership change, PhonePe has expanded Rahul Chari‘s responsibilities by appointing him as Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO). In addition to overseeing the company’s product and technology functions, Chari will now lead teams responsible for trust and safety, customer experience, data science and analytics, platform reliability, and other strategic initiatives across the PhonePe Group.
The appointments come as PhonePe continues investing heavily in engineering, artificial intelligence, platform scalability, and digital financial infrastructure. The company said it will further strengthen its technology organisation through continued investments in engineering talent, product innovation, and platform capabilities.
Founded in 2015 by Sameer Nigam, Rahul Chari, and Burzin Engineer, PhonePe has evolved beyond digital payments into one of India’s largest fintech platforms. Today, it offers a wide range of financial services, including UPI payments, insurance, mutual funds, stock broking through Share.Market, lending, wealth management, and merchant solutions.
According to the company, PhonePe had crossed 700 million (70 crore) registered users and over 50 million (5 crore) merchant partners by April 2026, making it one of India’s largest digital payment platforms.
