Former India captain MS Dhoni has invested in residential rooftop solar startup SolarSquare through his family office, Midas Deals, as part of the company’s recently announced $53 million Series C funding round.

Alongside the investment, Dhoni has also joined the company as its brand ambassador, reflecting his support for the growing adoption of clean energy solutions in India.

Earlier this month, SolarSquare raised $53 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Lightspeed and B Capital, with participation from Lowercarbon Capital, NGP Capital, Elevation Capital and existing investors. With the latest round, the startup has raised more than $100 million across multiple funding rounds.

The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand into 30 – 40 additional cities, strengthen its technology platform, enhance financing options, improve customer service infrastructure and develop advanced home energy management solutions, including battery storage systems.

Founded in 2015 by Shreya Mishra, Neeraj Jain and Nikhil Nahar, Mumbai-based SolarSquare provides end-to-end residential rooftop solar solutions, including consultation, financing, installation, government subsidy assistance, system monitoring and after-sales support.

According to the company, it has installed rooftop solar systems in more than 50,000 homes and around 400 housing societies across 29 cities in nine states, making it one of India’s largest residential rooftop solar providers.

Commenting on the partnership, MS Dhoni said he believes rooftop solar has the potential to transform the way Indian households consume electricity by helping families reduce electricity bills while contributing to a cleaner future. He added that SolarSquare’s customer-focused approach and commitment to quality made the company a natural fit for his investment.

SolarSquare Co-founder and CEO Shreya Mishra said Dhoni’s investment and association reinforce the company’s mission to make rooftop solar mainstream for Indian homeowners and help build greater trust among consumers considering clean energy solutions.

The announcement comes as India’s residential rooftop solar sector gains momentum following the launch of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, under which the Central Government provides subsidies to households installing rooftop solar systems. The scheme aims to enable one crore households to adopt rooftop solar, significantly expanding the addressable market for companies such as SolarSquare.
