IDFC FIRST Bank, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park Launch ₹2 Crore IGNITE Programme for Sustainable Startups

IDFC FIRST Bank has partnered with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) to launch IGNITE, a pan-India incubation programme for early-stage startups developing solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.

The programme will provide a total of ₹2 crore in financial and operational support, including a direct startup grant corpus of ₹1.36 crore. 16 startups will be selected through a competitive evaluation process.

IGNITE is being implemented by IIMCIP, which will handle startup outreach, application screening, evaluation and selection as part of the programme. The initiative will focus on businesses working in areas including green manufacturing, waste recycling and upcycling, circular economy solutions, cleantech, renewable energy, water and wastewater management, environmental technologies, and the sustainable use of local and indigenous resources.

Selected startups will undergo a nine-month structured incubation programme beginning in October 2026. The programme will include business diagnostics, one-on-one mentoring, technical bootcamps and masterclasses, market validation, product refinement, customer acquisition and pricing guidance, as well as support for investment readiness and fundraising. Startups will also receive opportunities to connect with industry leaders, investors, mentors and other ecosystem participants.

The programme will provide a CSR grant to each selected startup, with the top-performing ventures eligible for grants of up to ₹25 lakh based on performance evaluation criteria. The ₹2 crore headline support should therefore not be interpreted as ₹2 crore being distributed equally among the 16 startups. The programme separately identifies ₹1.36 crore as the direct startup grant corpus, with the remaining value comprising incubation and operational support.

To qualify, a startup must be registered and operating in India, with at least one founder holding Indian citizenship. Applicants must have a functional minimum viable product or demonstrated proof of concept corresponding to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 or above and must be working towards a social, environmental or developmental challenge aligned with the programme’s objectives. The startup must also have been incorporated no more than 10 years ago.

The programme’s focus extends across both technology-led environmental solutions and businesses based on local or indigenous resources. According to IIMCIP, the initiative is intended to support ventures developing scalable, market-ready products and services while addressing challenges linked to waste management, resource efficiency, climate resilience and sustainable industrial development.

Applications for the programme are scheduled to remain open through August and September 2026. The selected cohort is scheduled to be onboarded in October, with the incubation programme running through March 2027 and concluding with a Demo Day.

The initiative is part of IDFC FIRST Bank’s broader IGNITE social innovation programme under its CSR platform, FIRST IMPACT. The bank’s existing IGNITE activities have supported startups working across areas including HealthTech, GreenTech, FinTech, AgriTech and AI for Social Good. According to the bank’s FY2025-26 annual report, the programme supported 23 startups during the financial year, with grants ranging from ₹15 lakh to ₹30 lakh per startup.

The new IIMCIP partnership expands the programme’s focus towards sustainable business solutions, with the selected startups expected to work on commercialising their products, strengthening business models, expanding market access and developing measurable environmental and socio-economic impact.
