Deeptech communications startup Comminent has raised $2 million in funding from clean-tech focused fund Transition VC to scale its device-agnostic IoT infrastructure for smart cities and utilities.
The fresh capital will be deployed to accelerate smart metering rollouts and expand into broader smart city use cases.
Comminent is also exploring international markets including the US and Japan through strategic partnerships.
Founded in 2018 by Amarjeet Kumar and Vikas Kashyap, the Bengaluru-based company builds standards-based RF mesh communication networks designed for critical infrastructure applications such as smart metering, smart lighting, and water metering.
The technology delivers interoperability, high throughput, and self-healing capabilities, aiming to overcome the reliability and scalability issues of legacy systems.

Currently, the startup has contracts to deliver over 1 million endpoints and is in talks for additional deployments. It projects revenues of ₹300 crore by FY28 and is aligned with India’s mission to install 250 million smart meters in the next 4–5 years.
Comminent plans to use the funds for technology upgrades, talent acquisition, and supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments, while expanding its footprint into smart street lighting, water metering, and other urban infrastructure solutions.
