Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit has set up a temporary store at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj to cater to the needs of millions of pilgrims and visitors attending the globally renowned spiritual event.

The 100-square-foot store is strategically located to ensure fast delivery of essential items across key areas like Arail Tent City, Dome City, ITDC Luxury Camp, and Devrakh.

Blinkit’s CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, announced the initiative on X, stating,

“We’ve opened a temporary Blinkit store at the Maha Kumbh Mela to serve pilgrims and visitors.”

The store offers a wide range of products, including pooja essentials, milk, curd, fruits, vegetables, towels, blankets, power banks, chargers, and bedsheets.

Blinkit is supplying bottles of Triveni Sangam Jal, the holy water from the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, a historic event held once every 144 years, is organized by the Uttar Pradesh government and is expected to draw over 40 crore visitors this year.

The event, running from January 13 to February 26, holds significant economic potential, with estimates predicting revenues of up to Rs 1.2 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh as pilgrims spend on goods and services during their visit.

According to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Maha Kumbh Mela could generate revenue of Rs 1.2 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh. Government projections suggest that trade could reach Rs 2 lakh crore if the expected 40 crore visitors spend an average of Rs 5,000 each.

Both domestic and international businesses are capitalizing on this opportunity to establish their presence during the 45-day event, highlighting its immense economic prospects.

Recently, Blinkit launched a 10-minute ambulance booking service in Gurugram, designed to provide rapid access to emergency medical assistance. The service is expected to expand to other cities in the future.

Netizens have applauded the initiative, with comments flooding in on the post:

“A truly considerate initiative! Pilgrims now have one less concern with Blinkit delivering all the necessities right to them,” commented one user.

“This is fantastic. It offers convenience and introduces Blinkit to a much wider audience,” said another user.
