BioScan Research raises $1 million in seed funding led by Unicorn India Ventures
According to BioScan Research, the company recorded 5x business growth over the past 12 months and aims to triple its business over the next year.

Medtech startup BioScan Research has raised $1 million in a seed funding round led by Unicorn India Ventures to accelerate the commercialisation of its non-invasive brain injury diagnostic technology.
The fresh capital will be used to expand the company’s presence across domestic and international markets, secure additional regulatory approvals, broaden its product portfolio, strengthen research and development, and build new intellectual property.
Founded in 2017 by Anupam Lavania and Shilpa Malik, BioScan Research develops AI-enabled, non-invasive medical diagnostic devices for the early detection of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Its flagship product, Cerebo, combines Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) with machine learning algorithms to help clinicians rapidly assess the likelihood of intracranial injuries, enabling faster triage before patients undergo CT scans or when advanced imaging infrastructure is unavailable.
The portable device is designed to support emergency decision-making during the critical “golden hour” following head trauma. According to the company, Cerebo can be deployed across ambulances, emergency departments, rural healthcare centres, military field hospitals, disaster response operations, and other resource-constrained settings where timely diagnosis can significantly improve patient outcomes.
BioScan Research is an ISO 13485:2016-certified medical device manufacturer and has been supported by leading innovation and healthcare ecosystems, including BIRAC, IIT Kanpur, and iCreate, during its product development journey. The company has also been working toward expanding clinical validation and regulatory approvals for wider adoption of its technology.
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Shilpa Malik previously served as a Sensor Systems Scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), bringing expertise in advanced sensing technologies and biomedical instrumentation to the startup’s product development. Co-founder and CEO Anupam Lavania has led the company’s commercialisation efforts and strategic partnerships.
