Richa Kar, born on July 17th, 1980, in Jamshedpur, grew up in a conventional family. Although her family had no business background, Richa’s determination led her to take the path less traveled and venture into entrepreneurship.

Richa’s entrepreneurial journey gained momentum during her time at SAP, where she worked closely with a conglomerate that owned Victoria’s Secret. Surprised by the significant portion of sales generated through the brand’s online platform, Richa realized that the lingerie market in India was largely untapped. Inspired by this realization, she conceptualized Zivame, a platform that aimed to revolutionize the way women shopped for intimate wear in India.

Zivame was founded with the mission to address the societal stigmas surrounding lingerie shopping in India. Richa Kar understood that women often faced embarrassment, unwanted attention, and harassment when purchasing undergarments from physical stores. By providing a discreet and comfortable online shopping experience, Zivame empowered women to explore a wide range of lingerie products, fostering a sense of confidence and empowerment.

Zivame quickly garnered attention for its commitment to quality and customer-centric approach. Offering an extensive selection of lingerie, including bras, panties, nightwear, activewear, and shapewear, Zivame became synonymous with reliability, comfort, and durability. To finance her entrepreneurial venture, Richa Kar initially borrowed INR 30 lakhs from friends and family. Within a few hours of its launch on August 25th, 2011, Zivame received its first order, marking the beginning of a transformative journey. As the company experienced rapid growth, it attracted significant funding from notable investors, including IDG Ventures, Kalaari Capital, and Unilazer Ventures. Zivame’s ability to secure funding demonstrated the confidence investors had in Richa’s vision and the brand’s potential.

Zivame embraced digital transformation and leveraged technology to enhance the customer experience. Through an in-house analytics tool, Zivame gathered valuable insights into customer preferences, purchasing behavior, and product demand. This data-driven approach enabled the company to continually innovate its offerings, tailor its product line, and provide personalized recommendations to customers.
