Government Launches Affordable Salicylic Acid Face Washes Through Jan Aushadhi

The Government of India, under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), has introduced affordable Salicylic Acid Foaming Face Washes through Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country, offering consumers low-cost alternatives to premium acne-care products.

The products are available in 1% and 2% salicylic acid formulations, priced at ₹46.88 and ₹65.63, respectively. Comparable branded products in the market are typically priced between ₹150 and ₹300, making the Jan Aushadhi variants considerably more affordable.

Salicylic acid is a dermatologist-recommended ingredient commonly used for acne-prone and oily skin. It helps unclog pores, reduce excess oil, and manage blackheads and acne, making it a widely used active ingredient in skincare formulations.

The products are being distributed through Jan Aushadhi Kendras under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), which is implemented by the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The scheme currently operates a network of more than 16,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country, providing affordable generic medicines and healthcare products.

The newly launched face washes have attracted significant attention on social media, with many users highlighting their pricing compared to established skincare brands. Their growing popularity also reflects rising consumer awareness of evidence-based skincare ingredients such as salicylic acid.

The launch comes as India’s skincare market continues to witness strong growth, driven by increasing awareness of dermatologist-backed formulations, higher disposable incomes, and growing demand for specialised personal care products. By making clinically recognised skincare ingredients available through the Jan Aushadhi network, the government aims to improve accessibility to affordable skincare while expanding the range of healthcare and wellness products offered under the PMBJP.
