Gaurav Munjal’s Airlearn Crosses 2 Million Monthly Downloads Globally
Munjal has repeatedly emphasised that Airlearn is designed to compete with established global players like Duolingo by delivering a more personalised and AI-native learning experience.

AI-powered language learning platform Airlearn, founded by Unacademy co-founder Gaurav Munjal, has crossed 2 million monthly downloads, making it one of the top 5 most-downloaded language learning apps globally without relying on performance marketing.
Sharing the milestone on X, Gaurav Munjal said the company started Airlearn two years ago with a clear ambition: to build an iconic global product from India. According to him, the platform now records 25 million lessons completed every month, has reached a $5 million bookings run rate, serves 110,000 active paid subscribers, and generates nearly 10% of its bookings through its AI subscription offering. The app has also expanded its catalogue to more than 50 learning courses, including Chess, reflecting its ambitions beyond language learning.

Originally launched by Unacademy as an AI-first language learning platform, Airlearn combines conversational AI with personalised tutoring to help users learn languages through interactive practice rather than traditional memorisation. The platform supports multiple global languages and offers AI-driven speaking practice, pronunciation feedback, grammar correction and personalised learning paths. Alongside these AI capabilities, it also incorporates gamified features such as streaks, leagues and progress tracking to improve learner engagement.
The app has found particular traction in international markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany, positioning itself as a global product built from India rather than an India-first offering.
Airlearn has also emerged as the centrepiece of Gaurav Munjal’s next entrepreneurial chapter. Earlier this year, reports indicated that Unacademy plans to spin off Airlearn into an independent company, with Munjal expected to hold a larger stake and lead the business full-time. Existing Unacademy investors are also reported to be in discussions regarding future funding for the standalone venture.
Founded by Gaurav Munjal, who co-founded Unacademy in 2015 alongside Roman Saini and Hemesh Singh, Airlearn represents a departure from traditional edtech models. Instead of focusing on large instructor-led courses, the company is betting on AI-powered personalised education that can scale globally with a lean team and product-led growth.
