Biome Sustainability Ventures raises Rs 4 crore in seed funding
Biome Sustainability Ventures develops construction and furniture-grade materials from agricultural residue, aiming to create sustainable alternatives to timber and plastic products for the built environment.

Climate technology startup Biome Sustainability Ventures has secured Rs 4 crore in seed funding from entrepreneur and Delhi Technological University alumnus Rajesh K. Soin.
The company said the fresh capital will be used to advance research and product development, expand market adoption of its materials, and build manufacturing, research, and distribution partnerships.
Founded in 2024 by Sumeet Popli, Biome Sustainability Ventures develops construction and furniture-grade materials using agricultural residue. The startup is focused on creating alternatives to timber- and plastic-based products for the built environment.
The company converts farm waste into engineered wood and other materials aimed at reducing stubble burning, deforestation, and embodied carbon linked to conventional construction inputs. It is also working to create additional income opportunities for rural communities through agricultural residue value chains.
Biome has started working with clients across institutional campuses, corporate workplaces, and sustainability-focused events in India. It currently operates a manufacturing unit in Haryana with the capacity to utilise more than 7,500 tonnes of straw annually.
According to the company, this capacity can help reduce dependence on conventional wood-based boards while lowering emissions associated with stubble burning. Its straw-based board is positioned as an alternative to MDF, plywood, and particle board for indoor applications.
Dr. Rajesh K. Soin, Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer of Soin LLC, said: “We are thrilled to support Biome Sustainability Ventures in their mission to transform agricultural waste into high-performance, circular construction materials. By turning a pollution source into a valuable resource, they are poised for tremendous growth while creating a positive impact for the planet and farming communities.
The startup has received support under government programmes including the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, DST NIDHI PRAYAS, and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana RAFTAAR. It is also incubated at platforms such as DTU Innovation and Incubation Foundation, a-IDEA NAARM, Atal Incubation Centre CCMB, and MANAGE.
Biome was recently awarded Best Emerging Innovation 2025 by the Confederation of Indian Industry and has also been nominated for the Earthshot Prize 2026.
