Anthropic appoints Sangeeta Bavi as Head of Startups and Growth in India
Previously, she served as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory, where she led operational scaling and revenue growth initiatives.
AI research company Anthropic has strengthened its India leadership team with the appointment of Sangeeta Bavi as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth for the country.
In her new role, Sangeeta Bavi will focus on expanding the adoption of Anthropic’s AI assistant Claude among startups, digital-first businesses, and mid-sized enterprises across India. Her mandate includes building stronger engagement with the country’s fast-growing startup ecosystem and accelerating enterprise AI adoption.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives including Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic is an AI safety and research company best known for its Claude family of AI models. The company has positioned itself as an enterprise-focused AI player with a strong emphasis on responsible AI development and deployment.
Sharing the update on LinkedIn, Sangeeta Bavi reflected on her long association with entrepreneurs and the startup ecosystem, calling the new role personally meaningful. She highlighted Anthropic’s focus on building safe and human-aligned AI systems as one of the key reasons behind her decision to join the company.
Before joining Anthropic, Bavi served as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory Media, where she worked on operational scale and revenue growth initiatives. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade at Microsoft, where she played a key role in establishing and scaling the company’s startup business in India while driving enterprise adoption of AI and cloud technologies.
Anthropic has been steadily expanding its India presence as the country emerges as one of its fastest-growing markets globally. India currently contributes a significant share of global Claude usage, prompting the company to deepen its local operations and leadership network.
Earlier this year, Anthropic appointed former Microsoft India Managing Director Irina Ghose to lead its India business operations and onboarded former Google executive Amlan Mohanty as Head of India Policy and External Affairs. The company is also preparing to launch its first India office in Bengaluru as part of its broader expansion strategy.
