Adidas Layoffs in India: Gurugram Tech Team Hit by Restructuring

Sportswear major Adidas has begun reducing roles within its India Technology organisation as part of a restructuring exercise, with reports indicating that a significant number of employees at its Gurugram technology hub could be affected.
According to a reports, around 350 or more employees could be affected at Adidas’ Gurugram India Tech Hub, which is reported to have a workforce of about 700. If accurate, that would represent roughly 45% to 50% of the hub’s workforce. The reported figure has not been independently verified, and Adidas has not disclosed the exact number of positions being eliminated.
Adidas, however, said the impact across its entire India Technology organisation is less than 20%. The company did not provide an absolute number of affected employees. Reuters reported that Adidas’ website lists nearly 650 employees across its technology hubs in Gurugram and Chennai, although that figure does not establish how many roles are being removed.
Employees were reportedly informed about the restructuring during a town hall on September 15. According to people cited in the Wocult report, one group received exit letters on the same day, while another group has been asked to remain with the company until December 15 to complete handovers and explore other internal opportunities. Employees who do not secure another role by that date are reportedly expected to leave. The details of severance, notice pay and redeployment support have not been publicly confirmed.
The roles reportedly affected include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. Adidas confirmed that it is reducing a number of roles within its Technology organisation in India, describing the decision as difficult and saying it is intended to simplify parts of its organisational structure, strengthen critical capabilities and align its operating model with changing business requirements.
The company also said it continues to have open positions across the organisation and is encouraging affected employees to explore internal opportunities. Adidas said India remains a strategically important market and that its technology operations continue to support the company’s growth, innovation and digital transformation activities.
Adidas’ Gurugram location houses one of its Global Engineering Tech Hubs, which supports the company’s digital and e-commerce operations. The company’s careers site describes the India engineering hubs as part of its efforts to support digital experiences and e-commerce growth.
The company has also expanded its broader business-services footprint in India. Adidas opened a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024, adding to its technology and business operations in the country.
The latest restructuring therefore involves a reduction in roles within Adidas’ India Technology organisation, but the scale remains disputed: the 350-plus figure is a reported estimate for the Gurugram hub, while the company has officially stated that the impact is less than 20% of its India Technology organisation. Adidas has not publicly provided a final headcount of employees affected.
