Bengaluru-based drone technology startup, Airbound, has raised $1.7 million in a seed funding round led by Lightspeed, with additional participation from gradCapital and a group of angel investors.

    This follows a pre-seed round of $50,100.

The newly raised capital will be directed towards research and development, with an initial focus on medical logistics. The startup aims to transform the medical delivery landscape by providing efficient transportation of supplies from health centers to laboratories.

The company also plans to extend its services into the food and grocery delivery sectors, aiming to reduce logistics costs and enhance profitability.

    About Airbound:

Founded in 2020 by Naman Pushp, Airbound specializes in creating next-generation drones designed to lower last-mile delivery costs. Its flagship product, the TRT (Blended Wing Body Tailsitter), is engineered to address key industry challenges. By reducing 30 kilograms of hardware into just 1 kilogram, the TRT promises to be one of the lightest and most cost-effective drones available.

The startup claims that its drones are over three times lighter than traditional models, with four times the aerodynamic efficiency, which leads to significant reductions in both production and operational costs.

In addition, Airbound has developed advanced carbon fiber manufacturing techniques that have cut the weight of its drone’s airframe from 6 pounds to just 400 grams. Every system is optimized for enhanced safety, reliability, and efficiency.

It competes with domestic players like Red Wing and Tech Eagle, as well as global companies such as Wing and Zipline.
