Some women are born to be role models. Women have always been a source of inspiration and a catalyst for social change, whether it’s Mother Teresa, Sarojni Naidu, or Kalpana Chawla. Sudha Murthy is one such name who has had a significant impact on Indian society.

Sudha Murthy is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. The foundation supports education, healthcare, rural development, arts and culture, and indigent care throughout India.

Sudha Murthy was born to a Brahmin family on August 19, 1950, in Shiggaon, Karnataka. Her father, Dr. R.H. Kulkarni, a physician, and mother, Vimala Kulkarni, encouraged Sudha and her three siblings from an early age.

Srinivas Kulkarni, Sudha Murthy’s brother, is a well-known astronomer who got the Dan David Prize in 2017. Her early life experiences and fondness for her grandma inspired some of her books.

Sudha Murthy received a gold award for her outstanding academic achievement at B.V.B College of Engineering in Hubli, where she earned her BE in Electrical Engineering. Later, she pondered furthering her education and obtained her ME in Computer Science in 1974 from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where she later won a gold medal from the then Karnataka chief minister for winning both final exams.

Sudha Murthy’s professional career began in computer science and engineering. She is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and a member of the Gates Foundation’s public health programmes. She has established multiple orphanages, participated in rural development activities, backed the push to offer computer and library facilities in all Karnataka government schools, and established the Murthy Classical Library of India at Harvard University.

She is married to N. R. Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys. Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy is a millionaire businessman from India. He founded Infosys and served as its chairman, chief executive officer, president, and chief mentor until resigning and becoming chairman emeritus.

The couple has two kids. Rohan Murthy and Akshata Murthy.

Sudha Murthy has always been an advocate for women’s rights and a leader in educational growth.

Sudha Murthy is widely regarded as a prolific writer, a supporter of impoverished children’s education, and one of the brains behind Infosys, India’s premier IT firm. Sudha Murthy’s charity activity has received global acclaim while wearing soberly in traditional Indian clothing. From becoming India’s first female engineer to leading a firm like Infosys, her dedication to making a difference in society and her educational path have played a crucial role in her success.

Sudha Murthy has earned various honors and accolades for her work, including the Padma Shri, India’s highest civilian award, the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature, and the Rajyotsava Award for her social contribution. She also serves on the boards of various non-profit organisations and is a member of the Gates Foundation’s Global Library Initiative.

To summarize, Sudha Murthy’s journey has been marked by dedication, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to give back to society. She has had a tremendous impact on the lives of millions of people as the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, and her accomplishments as an author and educator have inspired countless others.
