Ola has entered the parcel delivery market in Bengaluru, introducing an all-electric two-wheeler logistics ecosystem. With this, Ola aims to compete with existing players like Uber Connect and Swiggy Genie.

Ola’s founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, tweets: “Launching Ola Parcel today in Bengaluru! Start of an all-electric 2W logistics ecosystem for India! ₹25 for 5km, Rs 50 for 10km, Rs 75 for 15 km, Rs 100 for 20km! You can use tonight onwards. Expanding across India very soon!”

While the specifics of Ola’s parcel delivery service remain somewhat veiled, it is expected to follow a similar model to its competitors. Uber Connect and Swiggy Genie provide options for delivering parcels that can fit easily into a bag or weigh less than 5 kg, making them ideal for quick and efficient last-mile deliveries.

Swiggy Genie, previously known as Swiggy Go, initially started as an instant delivery service in Bengaluru back in 2019. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, it was rebranded as Swiggy Genie and expanded its operations to 30 different cities across India in 2020, solidifying its presence in the hyperlocal delivery market.

Uber, too, jumped into the parcel delivery fray with its service called “Connect” in 2020. However, at the time, its services were limited to Gurugram, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Kolkata, restricting its reach compared to Swiggy Genie.

This move by Ola comes on the heels of a growing trend towards electric mobility in India. In June 2023, Gogoro, an electric vehicle battery-swapping solutions provider, announced a partnership with Swiggy to promote its electric smart scooters to last-mile delivery partners across India. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to make the delivery industry more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Furthermore, Ola Electric and Revolt, two prominent electric bike and scooter companies, have emerged as key players in the Indian electric vehicle market. Both companies were listed among the top 10 electric bike and scooter manufacturers in September 2023. Their contributions to the electric vehicle industry are expected to play a pivotal role in the ongoing transformation of the Indian transportation landscape.
